Forehead Reduction And The Hairline Forehead Lift

Hairline forehead lift is one of the key modifications of the classical forehead lift approach. The surgical procedure is technically similar to a typical coronal forehead lift, but the incision is made at the junction of the forehead and scalp, rather than in the scalp. The forehead is mobilized downwards towards the eyebrows and then stretched upwards. The excess skin is removed, and fine sutures are used for repair. One of the features of this technique is that the scalp behind the incision can be mobilized as a whole and shifted forward.

Hairline forehead lift is a suitable operation for patients with a wide forehead, high hairline, advanced forehead aging and severely low eyebrows. If the distance between an individual's eyebrows and hairline is more than 7 cm, this technique comes into play. In a patient whose forehead height is more than 7 cm, all lift techniques to be performed in the scalp will stretch the forehead further and create a masculine appearance on the female face. In addition, in patients with a forehead height of more than 7 cm, the distance of the scalp incisions to eyebrows will be around 10 cm, so the effect of a lift force applied from such a distance will be quite weak due to the distance.

Hairline forehead lift is a very effective procedure. It lifts the eyebrows very effectively and permanently and reduces forehead wrinkles effectively. The unique advantage of this method against other surgical techniques is that it allows us to maintain and even reduce the forehead height. This is the only surgical technique that can be employed to narrow down the forehead.

There are also some disadvantages of hairline forehead lift. The first and most important of these is the long incision scar at the junction of the forehead skin and scalp. Since this incision scar is not in the scalp, it will be visible during the early recovery period, that is, up to almost a year. Postoperatively, patients may be required to volunteer to grow bangs and use concealer make-up to camouflage this scar. In a group of patients, it is possible to do hair transplantation on and slightly in front of this scar to reconstruct the hairline and thus camouflage the surgical scars. On the other hand, this scar usually heals after the month 6 in the form of a thin white line that does not attract others’ attention in social life.

In the patient group with advanced forehead aging, drooping eyebrows and a very high forehead, the benefits of hairline forehead lift balance the disadvantages of the procedure.
