"Lamellar High SMAS facelift surgery" can be dubbed the most refined and updated form of facial rejuvenation surgery as a result of 50 years of evolution.
Lamellar means multi-layered.
The term HighSMAS means the superficial muscle and connective tissue layer of the face, which we call SMAS, is maximally included in surgery.
In the lamellar approach, the skin and SMAS are prepared and dissected as separate layers. This enables moving the deep tissue and superficial tissue layers in different directions during the same surgical session. The advantage of this technique is that we can move the skin in a slightly oblique direction, parallel to the wrinkles on skin surface, while fully lifting the deep tissue.
The ideal patient group for this technique is individuals with significant gravity-led sagging in the deep tissues and those with advanced surface aging. In this patient group, classical skin-based lift surgeries cannot adequately treat the deep tissue, and composite deep plane surgeries are ineffective on the surface. Therefore, the need for of a synthesis surgery that affects both layers has arisen. Lamellar HighSMAS surgery emerged from such necessity.
In individuals with obvious deep tissue and surface aging, directly pulling the tissue up may cause some wrinkles to gain a direction and position that they are not normally in. We do not have this side effect in Lamellar HighSMAS surgery.
In the surgical design we call High SMAS, we can achieve the most holistic result in the cheek unit, since the cheek mass is mobilized as a whole from under the eye to the jaw line, and from the front of the ear to the side wall of the nose. Since the cheek moves upwards as a whole, this surgery brings with it two advantages that are not found in any other facelift procedures. The first of these is the indirect effect of cheek movement on the lower eyelid. The second is that the rejuvenation effect extends to the midface region.
Lamellar HighSMAS surgery is technically more difficult compared to other facial rejuvenation surgeries and takes slightly longer to complete, so it requires specific training and surgical experience. Recovery time is a little longer than composite deep plane facelift and significantly shorter than conventional facelift surgery.
