Midface Lift

Midface lift is a kind of aesthetic surgery in which the soft tissue mass located in the center of the face is moved upwards and slightly obliquely to its ideal anatomical position.

Loss of volume in midface and gravity-led sagging make the face look tired, leading to a decrease in the support just under the lower eyelid and causing a dimpling of the under-eye area. When looking at young faces from a diagonal angle, there is some nice fullness on the cheekbones. This area flattens during the aging process. Midface lift re-volumizes this area to contribute to the emergence of a more feminine face profile. After a midface lift, the tear troughs fill up and the lower eyelid appears shorter.

It is possible to perform midface lift via various approaches. We usually access the midface through small incisions on the lower eyelid and on the temple area hidden in the scalp and mobilize this area just above the bone as a whole. The mobilized tissues are then fixed to both the bone skeleton and the hard connective tissue layers in the temporal area.

After midface lift, we expect to have swelling on the face and a slanted appearance on the lower eyelids, which lasts between 3-6 weeks. Naturally, both conditions resolve spontaneously at the end of the recovery process.

In the facial aging process, the problems around the eye and in the midface typically appear at the end of the 30s, about 10 years before the problems in the lower part of the face and neck. Therefore, we typically perform periorbital and midface surgeries in a group of patients who are 10-15 years younger than those who undergo facelift surgery.

However, in some individuals, midface and under-eye problems may be observed at a much younger age due to the structure of the facial bones and the soft tissue layout on the face.

Individuals between the ages of 30-50, who are uncomfortable with fading in the midface and dimpling under the eyes and lead an active life, are ideal candidates for midface lift.

We frequently combine midface lift surgery with temporal lift and upper and lower eyelid surgeries, particularly in the 40+ group.

Finally, a midface lift performed in the early stages of aging does not impose any restrictions on a facelift surgery that will be performed in the upcoming years. This is because facelift and midface lift surgeries are performed on completely different surgical planes.
