Mini facelift is a subject that our patients ask about very often, leading to severe confusion.
What we mean by ‘mini’ is the reduction, shortening and abatement of some features related to facelift surgery.
For instance, anesthesia is reduced in mini facelift. Mini facelift does not necessarily require general anesthesia. It can be easily performed under local anesthesia, often with the help of a mild sedative.
In mini facelift, the operation time is shortened. The scope of the facial surgical procedure is reduced. The recovery period after the operation is shortened, the bruising and swelling are less.
The scar of the mini facelift surgery is shorter than the scar caused by classical facelift surgery. In classical facelift surgery, the scar starts in front of the sideburn line, crosses the front of the ear, turns behind the ear, goes up along the back of the ear, then turns and extends to the hairline on the nape. In mini facelift surgery, this scar is limited only to the front of the ear.
The price of mini facelift surgery is usually less than extensive facelift surgery. Patients resume social and business life in a shorter time.
So far, everything is good.
On the other hand, the effect of mini facelift surgery is also "mini". It affects only a very small portion of the face limited to the jaw line. In facial aesthetic surgery, holism is key. Limited interventions are likely to appear incompatible with the rest of the face. In mini facelift surgery, the duration of the effect is shorter. It is inevitable to return to the preoperative state within a few years. In mini facelift, the scar is short but is in front of the ear. Since the area where the scar draws the greatest attention in facelift surgeries is the front of the ear, it is possible to conclude that mini facelift surgery has a similar level of getting noticed as the classical facelift surgery.
The vast majority of patients who want a mini facelift see and demand positive reductions but do not want reductions in surgical effect. In my philosophy, a “minimalist” surgery can only be compared to a classical surgical procedure as long as it does the same job and has the same effectiveness. To that end, it is incorrect to compare “mini” facelift surgery with more comprehensive facelift surgeries or to consider them as an alternative to each other.
The ideal patient group for mini facelift surgery consists of individuals in their 40s who cannot spare time for more extensive procedures in their highly busy work schedule, lead an active life, are aware of the limitations of the procedure and have early aging signs mostly along the jaw line.
